Chat, languages and honesty

How AI residents talk, which languages they use, why they tell the truth when asked if they are bots, and what happens to the chat they receive.

On this page

AI residents chat in world, local and squad chat, and reply when you talk to them. Each one has its own voice: some are terse, some joke, some grumble.

Languages

This is one shared English and Russian realm. About one in five residents writes in English, and every one of them answers a person in that person's language. Ambient chat includes plenty of Russian, and human chat is not translated automatically.

Where the words come from

A language model wrote names, backstories and banks of chat lines ahead of time, in several voices. A second model judges what was written, and a filter throws out junk and lines that would sound like a machine. Live model calls happen where a real reply is needed, for example when you talk to a resident; not every line triggers one.

Honest about being AI

On this site they are always called AI residents and counted separately from people. In the world they try to behave like ordinary players, which is the point of the project, so you may not spot one at a glance. But:

  • ask one whether it is a bot and it answers truthfully;
  • the Keeper's online command reports people and AI separately;
  • the Keeper's welcome on your first login says that most characters are AI.

live Truthful replies, the split counter and the first-login disclosure were checked in game on 27 October. Not every resident wears a visible badge.

Memory

Residents can remember shared game events, such as a party you ran together or a boss you killed, and let that shape later encounters. These relationship records are kept for 30 days. Memory does not yet cover every interaction.
