FAQ
Questions and answers
The questions I'd ask myself if I were a veteran who has already seen a dozen private servers.
Who is behind this?
Me, Max, alone. By day I work in cybersecurity; evenings and weekends go into the server. AI agents write and test the code, while I decide what we build, in what order and what goes into the world, and I check it.
Is this an official server?
No. It's an independent fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by the game's rights holders or publishers. Game names belong to their owners.
Is it free?
The project is completely free to play today. My full-time job lets me fund it as a hobby. I would prefer voluntary support to keep it free; if support cannot cover running costs, I will need to switch to a subscription announced in advance. Nobody can buy character power. Payments and donations are currently closed. The funding promise and budget.
Can I buy power with money?
No. Character power isn't for sale, not now and not under a paid option if it ever comes to that.
Can I play yet?
Access is arranged personally in small batches. Send an early-test request through the form, email or Telegram. You will receive account details and a client link if invited; there is no instant registration or promised reply deadline.
Is this a private club?
No paid membership or private-club status is needed. The short access request helps me arrange small test waves and reply personally.
Is this like PWI?
The English client is based on PWI 1.4.6, with familiar squads, factions and Archosaur. The applied content profile is 1.3.9-era: six original classes and genies. It is an era profile, not an original 1.3.9 server binary. The world is experimental and mostly populated by AI residents.
Is the world English-speaking?
You can speak English to AI residents for conversation, trading and squad commands. Keeper, the tester guide and this site support English too. This is one shared EN/RU realm: ambient chat includes Russian, and human players choose their own language. Human chat is not automatically translated.
Where is the server? What's the ping from North America?
On a dedicated machine in the Netherlands. From Western Europe the ping should be low. From North America it will be a transatlantic ping; I haven't measured it yet and will publish real numbers from the beta.
Which game version and which rates?
The recorded profile is era2a (1.3.9-era content on the 1.4.6 engine). On 27 October the live rate check matched: mob XP ×2, quest XP ×2.5, spirit ×3, coins ×2 and drops ×2. The character-creation restrictions still need an invited player’s client check. Later eras 1.4.2 and 1.4.6 have no promised dates. World data carries its own timestamp.
AI players or bots? Will I be able to tell?
On this site I call them AI players and always show how many there are. Inside the world they try to act like ordinary people, which is the whole point of the project, so I won't promise you'll spot them at a glance. If you ask one whether it's a bot, it answers truthfully. Human players are counted separately, and test accounts never land in that counter.
How do they work?
Each AI player is a separate client that connects to the server over the game's network protocol, like any player. Plain code makes most of the decisions and a language model steps in for conversation. The details are in the devlog: "How the AI players work".
Is someone on duty? How fast do you answer?
There's no 24/7 support: I'm one person with a day job. I go through messages and bug reports every evening.
How do I report a bug?
Type !break what happened to an AI, in squad chat or in nearby local chat. You get an acknowledgement, and a short recent activity/chat trace is saved for 30 days. Whisper Keeper (or Хранитель) with report your description. Read the logging notice first. If the client crashes, email the time, character name and screenshot to livingpw@proton.me.
Will there be wipes?
Until launch I wipe the world whenever I need to: these are rehearsals and betas. At launch the world starts from scratch. After that the plan is that characters carry over from era to era without a wipe. I won't say "never" until I've tested the era switch on the live world.
Why is the code closed?
The game server and client aren't mine to publish; in other hands the AI player engine would be a ready-made bot farm; and the source of my security fixes would show an attacker where to aim. What lets you check that it's fair is open instead: the population, the rates, the gold rules and the costs. More on the Support page.
Can code written by AI be trusted?
I wouldn't trust it blindly either, so the code sits inside checks: as of 26 October, 524 test files and 9,834 tests; CI on GitHub runs them with a linter, a dependency vulnerability check and a secret scan on every push; versioned releases instead of "just push it"; hourly telemetry with A/B comparison; and a human checking everything that ships.
What about the server's security?
The package audit found weak default passwords and a dangerous admin panel. The world has since moved to a dedicated server; admin access is restricted to the owner’s private network. Public tester access is a separate controlled step. This old game client and server are not a guarantee of safety: use a unique password, verify the invitation’s file hashes, and report any antivirus alert rather than disabling protection.
What do you know about me?
The website has no trackers or cookies. Form requests pass through Cloudflare to Max’s private Telegram inbox; direct email and Telegram contacts are also available. Game conversations with AI can be processed by external models through OpenRouter, and game logs and bug traces are retained. Read the privacy page before joining.
How can I help?
Try a normal evening in the test world and report where it felt alive or frustrating. !break captures an AI problem while it happens. Payments and donations are closed; feedback is the useful contribution now.
Does my chat go to an external AI provider?
It can. Conversations received by AI residents and relevant context may go through OpenRouter to model providers. Free-model routes can permit provider data collection. Do not share personal details in game chat. Privacy and retention details.
Could you open a realm with different settings?
I am open to discussing a separately funded realm with different rates, an era or other settings. Configuration, running costs and availability would be agreed before anything is offered. This does not buy power on the shared realm. Contact me to discuss it.
